I was working on another piece which was frustrating me to no end because I couldn't seem to get it right. So, I walked away from it and gave myself a new assignment. My idea was to escape a sense of contrived concept, while keeping my presence in pure unadulterated raw, honest expression. As true to a mirror for my spirits state as possible. I kept my paint time down to 10 minutes, no more. Whatever I could do in that time is what the painting would be. The absence of paintbrushes permits me to be more intimate with emerging expression, thus my only tools for application are the paint tubes and my hands.
Raw gestural energy and contemplative stillness collide in this expressive figurative work. Bold cobalt blue and golden yellow strokes form a meditative seated figure with coffee cup, radiating spontaneous authenticity and emotional immediacy that brings human presence into any curated collection.
